Embracing Balance: My Journey from Corporate Success to Family-Centric Fulfilment


Welcome to my very first blog post! Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life—one filled with passion, purpose, and most importantly, balance.


For over two decades, I dedicated my career to climbing the corporate ladder at Loreal, a journey that took me from the salon floor to the heights of general management. It was an incredible ride, filled with achievements, challenges, and moments that felt like "Emily in Paris." But amidst the hustle and bustle of boardrooms and business trips, I lost sight of something vital: myself.


You see, while chasing my career dreams, I was neglecting the most important aspects of my life—my family, my friends, and even my well-being. It took me to become a grandmother to realise there's more to life than just professional success. I craved a deeper connection with the people I love and a greater sense of presence in my own life.


And so, I made the courageous decision to leave behind the corporate world and create something truly meaningful—a sanctuary where my passion for hairdressing could flourish, and where my clients could experience the care and attention they deserve. Thus, Alexander Jayne was born—a salon named after mine and my partner's middle names, a tribute to our journey and our shared vision.


At Alexander Jayne, the client is at the forefront of everything we do. It's a space designed to be warm, welcoming, and wholly dedicated to the art of pampering and self-care. Here, I can finally do what I love most—look after people—in a way that aligns with my values and priorities.


Leaving behind the corporate world wasn't easy. There were moments of doubt and fear, but ultimately, I knew that reclaiming my time and my sense of self was worth it. Today, as I embark on this new adventure, I feel a sense of peace and fulfilment that I haven't felt in years.

Embracing Growth: Lessons Learned Over Six Months with Alexander Jayne Six months into this journey with Alexander Jayne, I've encountered numerous lessons, the most prominent being that fear and self-doubt are ever-present companions. No matter how much time passes or how many victories we celebrate, the fear of failure remains, often overshadowing our triumphs. Negative self-talk can quickly take over, leading to a downward spiral if left unchecked. One of the most important lessons I've learned is the necessity of seeking help and embracing vulnerability. It's crucial to recognize that it's okay not to be okay. Instead of succumbing to self-doubt, I’ve found that diving into business education and stimulating my creative thinking can shift my mindset to a more positive state. Our goals for Alexander Jayne are now centred on further enhancing our customer-centric approach. We're introducing VIP offers and events, ensuring our clients receive education from the best in the industry while being pampered by me and my team. We're also intensifying our commitment to sustainability. We've set up an amnesty station where clients can bring in their used shampoo and conditioner bottles for recycling, rewarding them with an extra discount on any salon purchase. Leading my team through this journey, I am constantly reminded of why I embarked on this path. I have a passion for caring for people and the planet, which truly fulfils me. The fear that accompanies this journey is simply part of the process, a natural companion on the road to growth and success. Thank you for being part of this adventure with Alexander Jayne. Reflections on the First Quarter

Lessons Learned and Glimmers of Hope As I sit down to reflect on the first quarter of being in business at Alexander Jayne Hair, I am filled with a myriad of emotions. Just over three months in, the journey has been nothing short of enlightening, challenging, and immensely rewarding. From grappling with my corporate ways to basking in the joy of client reviews, each day has brought forth invaluable lessons that continue to shape my entrepreneurial path. One of the most significant realizations I've had is that my corporate mindset hasn't left me. Despite diving headfirst into the world of entrepreneurship, I find myself constantly seeking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and working tirelessly, often forgetting to embrace the freedom that comes with being my own boss. The transition from a steady monthly salary to the uncertainty of business ownership has been daunting, to say the least. Yet, amidst the fear and uncertainty, there are glimmers of hope that propel me forward. Despite not yet being profitable, I take solace in the fact that the business is growing week on week. However, what truly fuels my spirit is the overwhelming support and praise from our clients. Their reviews have served as a beacon of encouragement, lighting up even the darkest of nights when the fear of failure creeps into my thoughts at 3 am. It's a humbling reminder of the impact our work has on people's lives and the importance of every interaction. A wise mentor once told me, "Keep doing the right things, and the results will come." This mantra echoes in my mind each day as I challenge myself to do better. How can I better serve my clients and support my team? This month, I chose to focus on sustainability—a decision that has far-reaching implications for both our salon and the planet. Becoming a sustainable salon means more than just recycling; it's about embracing a circular approach to waste management. By investing in sustainable practices, we aim to reduce 95% of our waste, ensuring that everything from the hair we cut to the plastic bottles we use finds new life and purpose. This commitment not only engages our team and clients but also underscores our collective responsibility to protect the environment. Amidst the pursuit of innovation and excellence, I am reminded that the freedom to choose what is right is the essence of this journey. Every day presents an opportunity to make a positive impact, whether through our services, our sustainability efforts, or our commitment to exceeding expectations. As I look ahead to the coming months, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. The road may be challenging, but with each step forward, I am one step closer to realizing my vision for Alexander Jayne Hair—a salon that not only transforms hair but also touches hearts and minds, leaving a lasting legacy of positivity and change.
